You may find it interesting to find that Augustine credits Plato for influencing him in becoming a follower of Christ. If you've read Plato's Republic you know his arguments about the "good" and the "above the line" realm of the forms. It was this type of reasoning that lead Augustine to consider the claims of Christianity. What Plato could not envision as a philosopher Augustine embraced as a theologian. Usually, large theological tomes are quite dusty and dry, not the case with this work. I particularly loved Books 11 - 14 where he covers the origin, progress and destinies of the two cities.
