- 4.0 out of 5 stars from Dillon -- Morrison/McKean team-up is worth it! : Morrison is a juggernaut in the comic book world, and could be the reason many people are drawn to this graphic novel. And while the storyline is great, it is McKean’s signature artwork that makes this truly worth your hard-earned money. After reading (or perhaps experiencing) Gaiman and McKean’s poignantly beautiful Mr. Punch graphic novel, I knew that I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see how McKean would approach something like the gallery of lunatics and hardened criminals of Arkham Asylum. The originality is, in my opinion, on par with Ross’s Kingdom Come. And while this doesn’t rank as my favorite Batman stand-alone story (The Killing Joke May always hold that title), this is still easily worth your time. It's not a typical comic, especially art wise (Well, it's Dave McKean, so of course) but it's so good. So different and weird! I think it was a great choice to pair with the story though. And I love that they included the script and extra tidbits at the back. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Stareye -- A very good take on the caped crusader's rather strange foray into Gotham's famous psychiatric facility. : I had yet to read this quite well known tale of the caped crusader's infamous foray into to depths of hell otherwise known as the Arkham Asylum. My first impression was that the plot setup was a bit "thin" but after a few pages I was very immersed in the craziness that ensued. The artwork, by one of my favorites, Dave McKean, was appropriately, even strongly evocative of Grant Morrison's masterful story-telling who is absolutely one of my favorite writers today (along with Gaiman, Moore, Snyder). My favorite scene was Batman's comment on basically facilitating Harvey Dent's psychosis by "letting him loose with a deck of Tarot cards" and teaching him Yi Jing in order to help him make decisisions; >such as going to the bathroom<... The ancillary images of the infamous Crowley Thoth Tarot did a great job of reinforcing the vibe at this point. I have actually known people in my own somewhat strange life that have displayed the same symptoms... Nevertheless, I related. Very good, well drawn, enjoyable, short, quick read- nice with a snifter of cognac. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2015 )

Der Joker, Rädelsführer des Aufstands, stellt eine simple Forderung: Batman soll sich persönlich und alleine ein wenig Zeit für seine Erzfeinde nehmen, im Gegenzug bleiben die Geiseln (weitestgehend) verschont. So weit, so gut klingt das nach einem sehr typischen Szenario, in dem sich Batman Gegner für Gegner durch die psychiatrische Einrichtung prügelt und Ende des Tages alle "Patienten" wieder sicher in ihren Zellen sitzen.
